Product Care and Cleaning Guide

Hydration is a daily habit – keeping your bottle fresh should be, too. Use this guide for quick rules, model-specific instructions, and simple routines that keep your HydroJug clean, odor-free, and ready for your day.

At-a-glance care rules

  • Wash before first use with warm, soapy water.
  • Disassemble for every wash: lid, straw, and gasket/seal.
  • Air-dry fully with the lid open and the straw flipped up for airflow.
  • Do not microwave or freeze any HydroJug product.
  • After flavored, dairy, or electrolyte drinks, rinse right away and wash the same day.
  • If page-specific guidance differs, follow your Product Page.

Daily clean (~60 seconds)

  1. Disassemble: remove lid, straw, and gasket/seal.
  2. Wash with warm water and a drop of mild dish soap.
  3. Brush straw and spout; use a bottle brush for the body.
  4. Rinse well and air-dry fully with lid open/off and straw flipped up.
  5. Re-seat the gasket evenly in its groove before use.

Weekly deep clean (5–10 minutes)

  1. Soak parts (lid, straw, gasket) in warm, soapy water for 15–20 minutes.
  2. Detail clean lid channels/threads and the straw interior with brushes.
  3. Rinse thoroughly until water runs clear and no scent remains.
  4. Air-dry completely before reassembly.
  5. Avoid bleach, harsh chemicals, abrasives, or metal scouring pads.

Cleaning by Product Type

Traveler & Sport (all sizes)

  • Top-rack dishwasher safe; remove any silicone boots before washing. Hand-wash is always fine.
  • Clean both bottle and lid regularly – especially after anything other than water.
  • Air-dry separately; keep straw flipped open for airflow.
  • For deeper lid cleaning, soak in either mild dish-soap solution or diluted vinegar (don’t combine); rinse well.
  • For more detail, watch our How to clean the Hydrojug Traveler guide.

Sport 64oz (insulated stainless)

  • Bottle and dual-function straw lid are dishwasher safe; top rack preferred.
  • Rinse after use; soak lid/spout in a diluted vinegar solution to remove residue.
  • Air-dry with straw flipped open.
  • Cold hydration only. No hot liquids; never freezer or microwave.

Pro Jug 73oz (BPA-free plastic)

  • Top-rack dishwasher safe. If it doesn’t fit upright, lay it on its side with the handle down.
  • Hand-washing with a bottle brush is great for the wide mouth and interior.
  • If the gasket seal loosens, start at one end and press evenly around the groove until it sits flat.
  • Follow these instructions to remove and re-place your seal.
  • Cold hydration only. No freezer or microwave.

Squeeze Bottle

  • Wash after each day out; run water through the pull-top spout.
  • Weekly deep clean: soak bottle and cap 15–20 minutes in warm, soapy water; brush and rinse.
  • Odors: use either a baking-soda soak or a diluted white-vinegar rinse (1:3). Don’t mix them together.
  • Top-rack dishwasher safe; remove promptly and finish air-drying.
  • No bleach, abrasives, boiling, microwaving, or freezing.

Plastic Shaker (20oz)

  • Top-rack dishwasher safe.
  • Remove the silent shaker grate and lid to clean separately; air-dry completely.
  • Rinse immediately after mixing powders; for deep clean, soak lid and grate in water and vinegar or water and baking soda; rinse until scent is gone.
  • Do not microwave or freeze. Cold liquids only.

Insulated Shaker (stainless)

  • Wash with warm, soapy water after each use; run water through the spout.
  • Weekly: soak parts 15–20 minutes; brush grate and gasket; rinse thoroughly.
  • Odors: vinegar or baking-soda soaks (not both together).
  • Top-rack dishwasher safe; hand-wash preserves finish.
  • Store dry with lid open and gasket removed; reseat fully before use.
  • No microwave, freezer, hot, or carbonated liquids. Cold hydration only.

Can Coolers (Slim & Standard)

  • Wash before first use. After each use, twist off the collar and hand-wash parts (interior and gasket) with warm, soapy water.
  • Rinse thoroughly; air-dry completely.
  • Top-rack dishwasher safe, but hand-washing helps preserve finish.
  • Avoid bleach, abrasives, boiling water; never microwave or freeze.

Odor reset

Choose one method at a time (don’t combine vinegar and baking soda):

  • Baking-soda soak: 1–2 tsp in warm water; soak 15–30 minutes; rinse thoroughly.
  • Diluted vinegar rinse: 1 part white vinegar to 3 parts water; soak 10–15 minutes; rinse until the scent is gone.
  • Vanilla towel (plastic odors): a few drops of vanilla on paper towels inside the dry bottle; cap 24 hours, then wash.
  • Coffee grounds: a spoon of damp grounds overnight; rinse thoroughly and wash.

Hot, carbonated, dairy & juices

  • Hot liquids: Only if your Product Page allows. Open slowly to vent pressure and avoid scalds.
  • Carbonated: Generally not recommended; pressure can build. If used, open slowly over a sink and clean lid channels more often.
  • Dairy/juices/electrolytes: Clean promptly; don’t leave residues overnight.
  • Clean lid channels more often after carbonated or sweet drinks.

Troubleshooting & Part Care

Gasket & Straw Care

  • Remove and clean weekly with warm, soapy water.
  • Use a straw brush end-to-end to clear buildup.
  • Inspect gaskets for cracks, nicks, or twists; replace if worn.
  • Always dry parts fully before reassembly to prevent moisture buildup.

Leaks

  • Check the gasket: twisted or loose? Reseat it evenly in the groove.
  • Cross-threading: if the lid feels uneven, loosen and re-tighten until it seals flush.
  • Straw: make sure it’s fully inserted and not split or damaged.

When to Replace Parts

  • Gaskets/Seals: cracked, flattened, or persistently odorous even after cleaning.
  • Straws: split, cloudy, or loose in the port.
  • Lids: if the locking mechanism no longer closes firmly or the spout won’t seal.

Need spares? See our Replacement Parts collection for compatible gaskets, straws, and lids.

Note: Shaker bottles do not have separate replacement parts; replace the bottle if components are worn.

Why Care Matters

A clean HydroJug doesn’t just look good – it keeps your water tasting pure, your bottles lasting longer, and your hydration routine enjoyable. Proper maintenance means every sip is refreshing, safe, and aligned with your health goals.

When your HydroJug is fresh, you’ll find it easier to hit your hydration targets – and actually enjoy doing it.

FAQs

Are HydroJug bottles and lids dishwasher-safe?
Traveler: yes.
Sport bottles: top rack.
Pro Jug 73oz: top rack.
Insulated stainless models: top rack (hand-wash recommended to preserve finish).
Lids and straws are generally top-rack – disassemble first.

How often should I deep clean?
Weekly, or any time you’ve used sweet, dairy, or flavored drinks.

What’s the best way to remove odors?
Use a baking-soda soak or a diluted vinegar rinse (don’t mix them). Rinse until no scent remains. For stubborn plastic odors, try the vanilla-towel or coffee-grounds method.

My rubber seal fell out – how do I fix it?
If the rubber seal falls off during wash you can easily put it back into place by starting at one end and running your fingers around the lid in opposite directions. Start at one end and press the gasket into the groove all the way around until it sits flat and even.

Can I use hot or carbonated drinks?
Check your Product Page. If allowed, open slowly to vent pressure; clean lid channels more frequently.
