If you are interested in fitness and building muscle, you know how important protein shakes can be to fuel your body and help you recover. But have you ever mixed your protein powder and ended up with soggy lumps where the powder doesn’t completely dissolve? Not only is it off-putting, but it also means you’re not getting the amount of protein you intended to.
Introducing the protein shaker bottle.
A protein shake or smoothie is perfect after an intense workout, but bringing a blender to the gym isn’t really an option. Fortunately, there are shaker bottles and cups that are designed to keep your protein drinks fresh and well blended. Shaker bottles usually come leak-proof and temperature insulated so you can just throw your bottle into your gym bag on the way out the door. The shaker bottle usually comes with some kind of insert that will blend your drink when you shake it, thus creating the perfect pre- or post-workout beverage.
There are a lot of things you can put in a protein shaker bottle. Some people are happy with just ice water or a flavored water add-in. Some people prefer fruit smoothies to increase their blood sugar after an intense workout. Others are die-hard protein shake fans who can’t complete a workout without one. Some people don’t care what the drink is, they just want something to mix their multivitamin supplements into. Shaker bottles are perfect for every occasion and are versatile in their uses. They’re even great for mixing powdered hot chocolate on a cold day.
However, there are many different kinds of protein powders or shakes, so how do you know which one is best for you? While you may prefer soy to whey, or are vegan and use plant protein, how they are manufactured makes a difference. WPC is the least processed form, containing roughly 30-80% protein with other things like fats and carbohydrates. WPI is more processed and more expensive, but has a higher protein count and fewer things like carbohydrates. WPH is the most processed as it is “pre-digested,” which makes it easier for the body to process. Whatever your choice, it’s important to note that the FDA does not regulate supplements like protein powder, and it is up to the manufacturers to label them accordingly.
Shaker bottles are designed to mix a drink, which gives them a significant advantage over regular water bottles. While it’s true you can add powder to water or milk and stir with a spoon, it doesn’t dissolve easily and usually leaves soggy lumps. Shaker bottles allow you to mix a drink effectively on the go, keep your beverage temperature insulated, and keep track of your hydration.
The best part is that everyone can use a shaker bottle. They’re not just for workouts at the gym. While they are great for protein shakes, they also can mix fruit juice for kids, hot chocolate, hold regular water for around the house, and more. There is no need to have multiple water bottles for different purposes around the house because the shaker bottle is versatile.
When looking for the perfect shaker bottle for you, the size will be important. The standard bottle is approximately 500 ml, but there are varying sizes depending on the needs of your body. Most bottles are dishwasher safe, which is important since blender bottles need to be washed between every use to prevent the growth of mold. Bottles with measurements along the sides will help you measure your shakes, and a sturdy lid will prevent any spills. While most shaker bottles are plastic with a metal mixer insert, there are some metal shaker bottles more similar to thermoses.
How to Use a Shaker Bottle
The first step is to add the liquid, whether it be water, milk, fruit, juice, or something else of your choice. There are measurements along the outside of the bottle which allow you to measure the liquid ratio to create the perfect blend.
Next, you can add the protein powder and supplements. There are usually small cups that come with protein powder, and by using one you can measure and add to the liquid already inside the bottle. Measurements usually depend on the type of workout you’re planning on that day, so be sure to check the labels or consult with a fitness consultant.
And last is the best part. Shake. Replace the lid tightly and shake the bottle vigorously up and down for about thirty seconds. The mixer in the bottle will help dissolve the powder and break up any clumps to give you a perfectly blended drink.
